Habitat: Wetlands, marshes, swamps, coastal estuaries, and flooded fields; also frequently seen in urban lawns and parks.
Diet: Small aquatic prey including crayfish, crabs, insects, and fish, found by probing mud with their long, sensitive bills.

The American White Ibis is a highly social bird that usually forages and nests in large flocks.
Their distinctive down-curved bill is used to feel for food in murky water without needing to see it.
Juvenile birds are mostly brown and white, only gaining their full snowy white plumage after their first year.
